Learn More →The fabric decides how a corset sells. A guide to the four families in our library — how each behaves in a steel-boned garment, what it suits, and how to choose between them.

On a custom order the pattern is settled and the construction is proven. The fabric is the entire decision — and it changes how the finished corset looks, how it wears, and who buys it.
The largest family in the library and the traditional choice for structured corsetry. A woven jacquard with the pattern built into the cloth rather than printed on it, so the design has depth and catches light differently as the body moves. It holds a busk and boning channel firmly, presses cleanly, and photographs well.
Brocades come in numbered qualities — 100, 200, 300, 600, 1400, 3100, 3200, 4000 — each with its own weight and pattern scale, and each available in multiple colourways. The number identifies the base cloth, not the colour, which is why you will see several swatches sharing a name.
Where brocade is woven, printed taffeta is a smooth ground carrying a printed design. This is where the distinctive prints live — botanical, gothic, architectural, tapestry-derived. Print gives you imagery a weave cannot: a specific motif, a narrative panel, a colour range no jacquard loom would produce economically.
Taffeta is crisp and takes structure well. It suits statement pieces where the print is the product.
Open, light and used for panelling, inserts and sheer sections rather than full structured bodies. Two variants sit in the library — a fine mesh net and a honeycomb mesh with a more visible cell — across a wide colour range including nudes and pastels. Mesh is the family buyers reach for when they want a corset that reads lighter or shows skin without losing the silhouette.
Floral lace works as an overlay and for romantic, bridal-adjacent pieces. Patent leather gives a high-shine, harder-edged look that sits at the fetish and club end of the range. Both are smaller families but distinct enough that they rarely compete with the others for the same customer.
Two practical rules. First, pick the fabric that will carry across several styles — your minimum is per fabric, so a cloth that works on an overbust, an underbust and a dress reaches 20 pieces far more easily than one that only suits a single silhouette. Second, choose against your market rather than your taste: the point of a custom order is a fabric no one else near you is selling.
