How Custom Design Is Changing the Way Small Boutiques Order Wholesale

For decades, wholesale meant picking from someone else’s catalogue. Custom Design flips that — choose your own fabric, styles and sizes at a 20-piece minimum. Here’s what that actually changes for a small boutique, and what’s coming next.

How Custom Design Is Changing the Way Small Boutiques Order Wholesale

For most small boutiques, "wholesale" has always meant one thing: picking from someone else's catalog. You choose from what a supplier already made, in the colours they already stocked, at the minimums they set — and so does every other retailer buying from the same catalog. Your shelf ends up looking like everyone else's.

Custom Design changes that starting point. Instead of picking a finished product, you choose the fabric or print, the styles, and the sizes — and we manufacture it as your own collection. No one else is selling the exact combination you built.

What actually changes for a small buyer

The two things that usually keep a small boutique out of custom manufacturing are minimum order size and unpredictable pricing. Custom Design is built around removing both:

  • 20 pieces, not 200. The minimum is 20 pieces total, mixed freely across as many styles and sizes as you want — not 20 units of one design. A boutique can build a real, varied first collection without carrying stock they can't sell through.
  • 130+ fabrics and prints already in the library — brocade, satin, lace, mesh, taffeta, and our exclusive gothic prints — ready to apply to any style. Prefer your own artwork or pattern? You can supply that instead (minimum rises to 30 pieces per fabric or print on a custom pattern).
  • A confirmed quote before anything is made. There's no fixed catalogue price to gamble on — our team prices your exact combination and confirms it with you before production starts.
  • 7–10 working days from confirmed order to dispatch — the same production discipline as our standard wholesale range, just built around what you designed.

Why this matters more for a small account than a large one

A large chain can justify a 500-piece minimum on an exclusive colourway because volume absorbs the risk. A boutique placing its first or fifth wholesale order can't — which is exactly why most exclusivity has historically been out of reach for smaller buyers. Dropping the minimum to 20 pieces, spread across styles and sizes rather than locked to one design, is what makes "your own range" realistic at boutique scale rather than something only larger retailers could access.

It also changes what you're competing on. Buying from the same open catalogue as every other account means competing on price and speed alone. A collection built on a print or fabric no one else picked competes on something a customer can't find elsewhere.

How an order actually comes together

The process is three steps, in this order:

  1. Choose your fabric or print — browse the library or send your own pattern.
  2. Choose your styles and sizes — any corset, corset dress, or waist trainer style in the range, mixed freely, 20 pieces minimum in total.
  3. Review and get your quote — we confirm the price for your exact combination before production begins.

Coming soon: exclusive limited-edition fabrics

We're preparing a small rotating selection of limited-edition fabrics that will only ever be available through Custom Design — not part of the open 130+ library, and not restocked once a run sells through. The idea is straightforward: a buyer picks one of these fabrics, builds a collection around it at the same 20-piece minimum, and that combination is genuinely theirs while the fabric lasts.

This is not live yet — we'll announce it here and by email when the first limited-edition fabrics are ready to choose from. If exclusivity for your shelf is the reason you're reading this, it's worth watching for.

Start building your own collection

Custom Design is open to approved wholesale accounts today, with no need to wait for the limited-edition fabrics to try the model. Pick a fabric, choose your styles and sizes, and see what a quote looks like for your own combination.
